Retention

The best retention process begins with selection. It’s just that simple: Hiring the right people for the job will always create a better match and lead to long-term employment. So what is the problem? Too many companies don’t hire the right people for the JOB. To build a foundation of superior performers right from the start, you must benchmark the job by letting the job talk. Then, coaching and training efforts that are job related and specific to the individual’s needs get them engaged in their position, involved in the company and on the fast track to success.

Retention efforts, however, don’t stop after the employee is on board. Retaining the employees you want requires effective management and a long-term investment in the employee. Our research has proven that 96% of all superior performers have been mismanaged. When asked about their performance during that mismanagement, they all found it difficult to maintain superior performance. When asked what they did about being mismanaged, most left the company. Employees are leaving managers and supervisors more often than they leave jobs. Management does have a direct effect on your retention figures.

Retaining your best employees ensures customer and employee satisfaction, sales growth, succession planning, organizational knowledge and lower recruiting costs. What are you doing to ensure your superior performers don’t jump ship and take their skills elsewhere?

  • Success Story – 50% of a company’s new hires were lost during the training program. After benchmarking the job, they were able to hire the right people and increase retention to 80%.
